The Public Relations (PR) Team Leader will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing strategic communication plans to enhance the organization’s public image. This role involves leading the PR team, handling media relations, crafting press materials, and coordinating events to ensure consistent brand messaging and positive public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead, mentor and manage the PR team, ensuring all communication initiatives are executed efficiently and aligned with organizational goals.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, editors, influencers and key stakeholders to maximize positive media exposure.
  3. Draft high-quality press releases, statements, speeches, media notes and promotional materials, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  4. Oversee planning and execution of PR events, including press conferences, media briefings, community engagements and public awareness campaigns.
  5. Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, assess the impact of communication strategies and prepare analytical reports for leadership.
  6. Collaborate with the marketing, branding and digital teams to ensure cohesive and integrated communication across all platforms.
  7. Lead crisis communication efforts, offering strategic counsel to safeguard and uphold the organization’s reputation during challenging situations.
  8. Supervise content creation for newsletters, articles, publications, website updates and public announcements.
  9. Develop PR strategies and communication roadmaps to support organizational initiatives, campaigns and long-term goals.
  10. Ensure messaging consistency, maintaining alignment with brand tone, mission and organizational values across all communication channels.
  11. Oversee internal communication initiatives, ensuring employees remain informed and engaged.

  1. Proficiency in PR tools such as Meltwater, Cision, Google Alerts, or similar monitoring platforms
  2. Familiarity with content management systems and digital communication tools

  1. Ability to conceptualize communication campaigns
  2. Understanding of branding, tone of voice and public messaging
  3. Skilled in developing engaging content tailored to different audiences

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Mass Media, Marketing or related fields
  2. 4–7 years of professional experience in PR, media relations, or corporate communications
  3. Proven experience managing PR campaigns, handling press interactions and supervising teams
  4. Experience working with corporate organizations, NGOs, educational institutions or government bodies is an added advantage
  5. Strong portfolio of press materials, communication campaigns or media coverage achievements
